Passing Series

'Passing Series' was originally developed for the Transfuse exhibition at the Great Eastern Hotel in Liverpool Street, London in 2003, referencing our hurried, transient existence within the context of
modern city life. I explored ideas of anonymity through the use of silhouette and shadow, presenting
the figures without facial detail, focusing on the posture, pace, and style of clothing relevant to their surrounding environment. The concept evolved. I became more interested in the ideas that relate to our interpersonal relationships, the observation of gesture and body language, a snapshot capturing
the conscious and unconscious movements that communicate our
attitudes and feelings to one another.

The float glass or mirror panels are sandblasted in contrasting ways to play with the positive and negative space. Layered onto these panels are fused glass figures, silhouettes and subtly detailed clothed figures. The mirror panels reflect the surrounding environment, integrating the work directly within the space, with the reflected image varying depending on the position of the viewer. The float glass panels, when front lit, project shadows of the figures and panel graphics onto the wall behind.

'Passing Series', although modern in its style, sits comfortably within much older buildings, the home, as well as the corporate environment.
