Contemplation

Series

'Contemplation Series' evolved from observing the shadows of plants and trees outside a window being cast by the sun onto the glass of the window and then further, and more intensely, onto the adjacent interior wall.
The mirror and each side of the float glass panel are sandblasted with stylized imagery of leaves and branches and their shadows, creating a tonal, multi-layered reflection in the mirror behind. The look of the artwork evolves with the changing lighting conditions throughout the day. Intense lighting projects

the line drawings from the front overlay onto the mirror which in turn reflects the lines back onto the rear surface of the front panel creating additional shadow line details through the sandblasted imagery.

The viewer is drawn, instinctively, to move around the artwork, taking in the optical effects of the work and the changing views reflected in the mirror of the general surroundings.

This style of work can also be incorporated very effectively into the fabric of a building, for example, windows, glazed door panels or internal screens.
