Nicola Ransom
Inspiration for Nicola Ransom's work is drawn from the world
around her, people, architecture, details from nature, colour, pattern and texture. Her current work draws more specifically on ideas relating to place, intimacy and sanctuary, exploring human thought and emotion and our connection to the places we inhabit
for contemplation, reflection or inspiration. These concepts are explored, primarily, through her work with kiln formed glass, intricately cutting and layering float glass, drawing and collaging with natural materials, wire and coloured glass to create both figurative and abstracted imagery. She then goes on to combine the fused glass elements with sandblasted glass or mirror panels, to create wall mounted 3-dimensional artworks.
Nicola has a fascination with layering. The layering of ideas
and their meanings along with the layering of materials and
techniques creates a body of work that demands both a
visual and a philosophical investigation.
Nicola plays with the concepts of positive and negative,
projection and reflection, drawing the viewer into the
picture to explore. She is interested by the interrelation
of wall-hung artworks and windows framing the view of
the natural and man-made world. The idea that an
image, a thought, a moment in time is bound within
an actual or implied framework.
Nicola's work is held in private and corporate
collections worldwide.
