Nicola Ransom
My artworks evolve through experimentation, the play of different materials against each other
to create line, colour and texture, expressing motion and depth through reflection and layering,
drawing the viewer in to explore.
I find painting and collaging with the earths natural minerals and oxides, sculpted metal forms, enamels and coloured glass to be an eternal fascination. The true colours of the final artwork only become apparent after the kiln firing process. The chemical reactions that take place when
the materials within the sheet glass are heated up to 800 degrees celsius draw out the vivid hues from the various metals, creating new colour combinations and textures.
